Boozy Icy Popcicle Zipzicles

Boozy Icy Popcicle Zipzicles

Nothing beats an icy popsicle in the heat of summer than a BOOZY POPSICLE! That's right - the ease of an otter-pop with the added pop of an adult beverage. As soon as we saw these cool Zipzicles we were hooked and have been experimenting ever since!

Making alcoholic frozen pops is actually much harder than it seems. First of all, liquor doesn't freeze, which makes things difficult. Also, popsicle molds usually help, but the plastic kind can leak and are difficult to keep in your freezer (and the high-grade metal ones are pricey). And how are you going to serve them and keep them cold? Sounds like more of a hassle than what it's worth.

For summer entertaining, ditch the popsicle molds and use Zipzicles. Like Ziploc bags, they zip at the top to seal in your beverage of choice, and come in convenient popsicle shapes. Each baggie holds about 2 1/2 ounces of liquid, which means the alcohol content of each pop won't be too high (so that it will actually freeze). But when the summer temps are scorching, and you really want a frozen treat to cool down, definitely help yourself to more than one pop!

To make sure your pops actually freeze though, they need to be made with 1/2 ounce or less of alcohol per pop. The good news is, most jiggers have a side for 1/2 an ounce, to be sure to measure accordingly so your pops actually freeze. Any more than that, and you might be left with a slushy consistency (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, either!) For entertaining, fill a tub with ice and keep your Zipzicle cold all party long! If you want to label which ones are which, mark them with a permanent marker prior to freezing.

We have gathered a few recipes for you to try out.

Vodka Lemonade Zips

  • Lemonade (homemade or store-bought), about 12 ounces
  • Pink lemonade (homemade or store-bought), about 12 ounces
  • Vodka (or spirit of your choice), about 6 ounces
  • 12 Zipzicle® pouches available at zipzicles.com
  1. Measure 1/2 an ounce of your alcohol with a jigger. Pour into Zipzicle using a funnel. If you don't have anyone around to help you, you can set the zipzicle in a tall cup.
  2. Fill the rest of the Zipzicle with the lemonade. Zip shut, and shake up and down to distribute alcohol evenly.
  3. Repeat with remaining Zipzicle until finished. Store in your freezer in a cup, sitting upright. If you don't have enough space to store upright, you can store them lying down.

Margarita Zipzicle® Ice Pop

  • 6 fluid ounces gold tequila
  • 4 fluid ounces grand marnier
  • 20 fl.oz limeade substitute margarita mix if desired
  • 12 Zipzicle® pouches available at zipzicles.com

Mix ingredients and using funnel fill pouches to line. Freeze upright. Ice pops may not freeze entirely solid due to alcohol content.

Lava Flow Popsicles:

  • 4 oz coconut rum
  • 4 oz light (white) rum
  • 10 oz frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup pineapple chunks
  • 8 oz pineapple juice
  • 8 oz cream of coconut
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  1. In a blender, combine coconut rum, light rum, and strawberries. Blend to a puree. Transfer to a clean pitcher.
  2. Clean and wash out blender. Add pineapple juice, cream of coconut, and crushed ice. Blend until smooth.
  3. Using a funnel, slowly pour a bit of the strawberry mixture first into the popsicle bag, then top off with a bit of the pineapple. Continue in this manner until both mixtures are done
  4. Freeze for at least 3 hours, but remember that because of the alcohol, they won't be fully frozen.

Really, you can swap in any fresh juice or pureed fruit you're craving. These are reusable, so suck 'em down and make another batch. How about two parts watermelon puree, one part rum, plus a few fresh strawberries? How about yes.
